Ok, now that another deranged and directionless young idiot was brainwashed into attempting to explode a bomb, I can only imagine TSA getting busy hiring lot more people who will subject 80 year old grandmas equally and subject them to unspeakable duress.
Can we be more sensible? Let us try to solve this problem like any other problem, efficiently.
Here are all the options we have available:
We will limit ourselves to risk from airlines.
1) Can we agree international flights are more likely to suffer terrorist incidents than domestic. Why not tighten the noose around inbound/outbound international flights.
A. Disallow direct flights to and from select countries.
B. Disallow indirect flights from anywhere if any of the passengers originate from one of those select countries.
I do not understand what the reward is if the risk is lost precious lives of innocent others.
These select countries do not extend any freedom to anyone. Why should we?
2) If (1) is too much for you, can we at least force such flights to land at a distant place like a remote island and eliminate all
threats before allowing them to continue onward.
Oh, yes, it is unsettling that the culprits are an insignificant minority. I agree but why should a vast majority waste time and
be subject to duress and delays because of the insignificant minority. What is the economic cost of this mindless search thrust on the entire population. Only in America!
If you wondering why the majority of those select countries suffer, I say the majority in those countries allow these anti-social elements to thrive, recruit, train, plan and execute these acts. Those silent majorities deserve the Hiroshima and Nagasaki experience more than the Japanese deserved.
Does anyone even ask these terrorists if they ever know of a mullah or the ring leader who participated in such acts.
Mullahs almost always send others to do their work. What a heavenly place this world would be if these mullahs would participate and purge themselves.

There is no harm if we selectively stop and examine by profiling passengers. We are a fair people! We do not need to be
politically correct punishing the entire nation to prove this point. No matter what we did, these bigots will never change their
opinion of us. Time we ignored and do exactly what they would do. I am tired of our political correctness. Just so you know,
I am a liberal and ailing from one of those select countries, I will be happy to endure all this nonsense to relieve countless others who are being subject to nonsensical delays.
I am opposed to illegal wars to usurp others wealth however I am for fighting to finish when it is just.

Yes, we can be more sensible, but if your objective is to reduce the threat of terrorism, your proposals with respect to air travel will fail to achieve that objective.
Terrorism is a military tactic. It is associated most frequently with non-state actors, but state actors engage in it as well, whether directly (e.g., "shock and awe") or indirectly, via proxies. It is a tactic frequently employed by the militarily weak against the militarily strong. It targets innocents both for effect and as a matter of practicality. When employed by the weak, they justify its use on grounds that direct engagement of military forces would be feckless. The strong justify its use on the grounds that total casualties will be reduced if popular support for enemy forces is diminished by virtue of the terror inflicted on non-combatants.
The only way to reduce the use of any military tactic is to reduce or eliminate the causes for its use.
Domestic and foreign terrorism directed at the United States of America is driven by a hatred of the policies and actions of the United States Government. To the extent some terrorists hate the people of the United States, it is because they deem those people to be responsible for the conduct of their government.
Note that foreign terrorists do not attack state or local governments in the United States or express any anger at these governments. They reserve their hatred for the federal government, which is that agency that conducts military operations abroad. Indeed, not a single U.S. military operation on foreign soil since the War of 1812 has been morally justifiable. All wars waged by the United States government since have been wars of aggression. When people fight back, Americans should not be surprised.
The United States government does not even respect the supreme law of the United States. By all rights the forces fighting hardest to alter or abolish it should be those of the fifty states and the people living within those states whose natural and constitutional rights are trampled and ignored by Leviathan. Whatever may be the reasons why Americans meekly accept the usurpations of the federal government - in so doing defiling the memories of those who fought and died in the American Revolution - others need not heed those reasons. Some people are more prone to action than others.
One thing and one thing alone will reduce the threat of terrorism: the United States government must cease and desist from initiating the use of force against others. So long as it acts like a bully, people will try to punch it in the nose. When it starts minding its own business and respecting the rights of others, it will have no need for measures such as you suggest.
Terrorism is vile and immoral, no matter who engages in it. Let us clean up our own act, first. That will encourage others to clean up theirs.
